Other health issues affect Dalmatians at approximately the same rate as any other breed of dog. These issues could include renal disease, seizures & epilepsy, allergies, eye disorders such as glaucoma, heart disease, endocrine disease, and musculoskeletal injuries.
Selective breeding by reputable preservation breeders helps to minimize health problems in purebred Dalmatians.
Owners can also help minimize health issues and/or improve outcomes through:
Annual physical examinations with a veterinarian – It is a good idea to have a baseline complete blood panel done on young Dalmatians between 12 and 18 months of age. This will provide a baseline if future problems develop and provide early detection of potentially congenital or inherited disorders such as kidney or liver diseases.
High quality diet low in purines with ample hydration
Regular exercise to keep them fit and in proper weight. Out of shape dogs are more prone to injury and to some types of disease.
